High end TBI lab with VLSI based equipments has been established to facilitate the entrepreneurs under TBI/STEP incubation

Infrastructure facilities created

Entrepreneur infrastructure: Common Computation facilities for the entrepreneurs have been set up. Physical infrastructure like office, workshop space on an affordable basis is made available to the entrepreneurs.

Multimedia facility: Dedicated multimedia facilities for remote board meetings and video conferences are fully running. Regular meetings are held with the GVL partners i.e. JYU, Finland through videoconferencing. This is to keep pace with the developing technologies in other countries.

Separate cubicles: Separate cubicles for companies have been created which provide facilities basically of 2 kinds i.e., test/measurement and design. During their prototype development they use our design tool simulation package. Hardware/ prototype developed by them require measurements and for that they use our infrastructure. The companies can access these cubicles and avail the facilities for their design and testing.

Separate administrative complex: Separate administrative complex has been created for the proper functioning of TBI


Start-ups are being counseled, mentored, given technical and business advices by experts and respective faculties of the institution. We are giving 3-tier counseling to the start-ups. STEP /TBI is also home to other supportive programs which has been able to support entrepreneurs and innovators coming to TBI. The presence of a constellation of associated programs as mentioned below has greatly assisted the TBI ecosystem development. STEP/TBI along with supporting agencies and programs at IIT-Kharagpur supports innovators by

The unique collaboration with the GVL has also provided the entrepreneurs facility to discuss and develop latest technologies which are prevalent in the developed countries.


The appliances or products out of this lab are mainly concerning towards simulation and

testing of components and front end circuits as follows:

Power amplifier to meet very high power at high frequency applications

Working frequency range may be from 140MHz to 20 GHz frequencies.

These technology based works eventually require the test and measurement setup for very high frequency integrated circuits. Those circuits may be consisting of a lot of linear and non-linear devices. Hence for the sake of overcoming performance prediction difficulties in non-linear devices, a complete load pull system is being installed.

The Electronics Design Automation Software (Agilent make ADS) has also installed for preliminary design and simulation of complicated RF circuits like low noise amplifiers, potheyr amplifiers, phase shifters, transceivers, mixer for down converters, mixer for up converters, variable gain amplifiers. This will also be needed as the integrator of our future load pull system and will act as a parameter extractor for the total system. The ADS, being an very expensive software will enable entrepreneur to design from day one circuits for various types of RF front-end as described earlier. This will start a new way of very high end value added high tech start up from within the IIT system. It has already resulted in the creation of the R&D unit of semiconductor companies, such as Sankalp Semiconductor, Intellisys, and Meridian. The present test setup will be added to some other RF equipments like tuner, bias tee, coupler, tuner controller and many others to complete the load pull system to be procured in due course. Besides that, 5 numbers of desktop computers (out of them 2 nos of computers are having high end processing capabilities), 1 no of scanner, 1 no of printer are procured. All the computers are connected to IIT LAN for distributed processing capabilities.


TBI Test & Measurement Lab comprises on wafer & packaged IC characterization & Measurement workstation with High end server system for providing and managing real time measured IC data to designers in TBI design Lab. which increases the efficiency of Lab with respect to time saving and avoiding complicacy during circuit design. The present equipments that have already installed, are some parts of the complete load pull system which will be used for performance measurement of any kind of (on wafer or packaged IC) VLSI component or circuit. The installed test equipments are Common user hardware such as High end server and workstation, Network server system; Common user implementation /content packages and Test Equipment such as Vector Network Analyzer, Signal Generator, Spectrum Analyzer, Power Meter, Power Sensor, DC Supply (25V, 1A, 80W), DC Supply (60V, 35A, 2000W), Semiconductor Parametric Analyzer.
