INTRODUCTION

"Promoting Innovations in Individuals Start-ups and MSME" (PRISM) is the erstwhile "Technopreneur Promotion Programme” (TePP). TePP is an initiative of Department of Science and Technology, Govt. of India to transform an individual innovator into a successful Technopreneur by promoting, supporting, funding untapped creativity of individual innovators.”TePP” was launched by the Ministry of Science and Technology in 1998-99 and was jointly operated by the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR) and Technology Information, Forecasting and Assessment Council (TIFAC) of the Department of Science and Technology (DST) but at present it is operated by DSIR alone since May 2008.

PRISM is for budding students, professionals and common citizens interested in innovation and having an implementable and commercially viable, novel innovation. An innovator of Indian nationality, interested in innovation is provided Grant –in-aid support by PRISM DSIR for prototype development and commercialization subject to completion of sanction of project which includes evaluations, technical and financial viability as well as commercially viable analysis. PRISM -DSIR also helps the innovators to get acquainted with the fundamentals of patenting as well as technical and strategic assistance in idea development.

In 2014 IIT-Kharagpur has been selected as TePP Outreach cum Cluster Innovation Centre for PRISM. Along with its network partners IIT-KGP incubate independent prospective innovators to emerge as entrepreneurs by facilitating government grants, technical guidance and by mentoring through academic and industry experts .The institute has been actively engaged to promote the innovative potential of creative Indians not only within the state of West Bengal but in the entire Eastern region of the country.

Funding Details

PRISM Phase-I

Category – I: Proofs of Concepts/ Prototypes/ Models (Total Project Cost : Rs. 5 Lakh)

Maximum support may be limited to Rs 2 lakh or 90% of the total project cost whichever is lower.
Any Indian citizen including student innovator can avail support to develop their novel idea into demonstrable models/prototypes.

Category – II: Fabrication of working model/process know-how/ testing and trial/ patenting/ technology transfer etc. (Innovation Incubation) (Total Project Cost : Rs. 5 Lakh up to 35 lakh)

Maximum support may be limited to 20.00 lakh or 90% of total project cost whichever is lower.
Any Indian citizen having innovative idea.
Any Indian citizen having innovative idea.

PRISM Phase – II (Enterprise Incubation) (Total Project Cost : up to Rs. 100 Lakh)

Maximum support may be up to 50.00 lakh limited to 50% of the total project cost. The support may be provided for scaling up technology based innovations, including patenting/ design registration/ trademark registry/ technology transfer to develop a marketable product/ process towards enterprise creation.
Successful PRISM innovators or innovators who have successfully demonstrated proof of concept with the support of other government institutions/ agency.

PRISM - R& D Proposals (Total Project Cost : up to Rs. 100 Lakh)
Maximum support may be up to 50.00 lakh, limited to 50% of the total project cost for developing technology solutions aimed at helping MSME clusters.
Any R&D institute/ antonomous institutions/ public funded laboratories/ academic institutes and so on.
